Master Food Preserver Certification Course

The Seattle Tilth Master Food Preserver Certification Course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to teach others safe methods for food preservation. Learn everything you need to be a safe canner and food preserver, and become certified to instruct others. This training includes food preservation history, a food-borne illness overview and current USDA guidelines for canning fruits, vegetables, meats and seafood. You will learn freezing and dehydrating methods, how to pickle and ferment foods, and teaching strategies. The course is offered in a lecture, demonstration and discussion format, with a significant hands-on component. The class will culminate in a symposium at which participants will be required to develop and present a group lesson to receive their certificate. Upon completion of the course attendees will be certified by Seattle Tilth to teach food preservation for three years.
